How to Post a GIF on Facebook
GIFs are live images which can be anything from an animation to a clip from a favourite movie or TV show. Not quite a video clip or a photo, they are presented as a kind of boomerang clip which automatically replays itself over and over again on your screen.
Sharing them on Facebook can be a way to add humour to your post, share a comment that is more animated and visual than a text message, and insert some context to your update.
But how do you do it?
Here’s how to post a GIF to your Facebook profile in 3 short steps.
3 Steps to Post a GIF on Facebook
- On your Facebook home screen, click in the ‘What’s On Your Mind?’ box to create a new post
NOTE: You can also do this direct from your profile page
- Click on the text box to start typing and scroll along the carousel of coloured options at the bottom of the text screen until you see the one labelled ‘GIF’
- Some of the most popular trending GIFs at that time will appear on the default screen, or you can use the search bar to search for something more specific which relates to your post. Click on your chosen GIF to add it to your post, then add text above it
Some of the ways that you can use this search bar include searching for a specific character or clip, typing a word that’s related to your post and searching the results, or typing a season or emotion.
Adding a GIF to a Comment
If you’re commenting on a photo or on someone else’s post on Facebook, you can add a GIF by simply selecting ‘Comment’ under their post and then selecting the grey GIF icon to the right hand side of the text comment box.
Again, you can scroll through the trending GIFs or search for something specific using the search bar.
In short, GIFs are a popular form of content that more and more users are adding as an alternative form of comment or post to classic text. They are both more engaging and more visual and make posts more eye catching for scrollers.
